Authentic, hand painted Victorian porcelain brooch circa 1850-1910. Wow—this is such a beautiful piece. Metal backing. Porcelain with gold gilt layered with intricate hand-painted beads that give this piece an unusual texture.
The cool thing about brooches is that they reveal their age quite clearly in their clasp system. This beauty has a tube hinge with a c closure—typical for this time period but not later, when more modern safety catches were invented (the spinny thing that keeps the pin in place). A brooch of this size would have likely been worn on a collar. It could easily be attached to a brooch-pendant convertor and worn around as a statement pendant.
